safeguard our financial health, we invite you to apply for an Associate Board Member or Supervisory Committee Member role. These positions are a unique opportunity for members to actively contribute to the direction and
success of the credit union. Join us in making a difference.
YOUR QUARTERLY FRAUD FOCUS
If you receive a notification from your utility company telling you your payment is late, be cautious. It could be a scam.
The Federal Trade Commission has reported that a scam is targeting
consumers, posing at their local utility company and asking them to make a
payments at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart or another similar retailer using a
barcode. But really, it isn’t the utility company at all.
Here's what you need to know to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
1. MAKE DIRECT CONTACT. Whenever in doubt, contact the company directly. If you are in a conversation with them already, hang up and call the number on their website or your utility bill.
2. AVOID UNUSUAL PAYMENTS. Only scammers will ask you to pay using a wire, gift cards, barcodes, payment apps or cryptocurrency. Never
use these methods of payment for a bill.
3. ACT QUICKLY. If you think you sent money to a fraudster, contact your financial institution immediately so they can attempt to retrieve the funds
(depending on the payment method used).
If you encounter a scam, remember to report it, even if you haven't lost money, to the FTC at ReportFraud@FTC.gov. For extra protection, we offer identity recovery services for as low as $2 per month.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR CREDIT REPORT AND SCORE
Are you interested in better understanding credit reports, credit scores and how they work together?
Millions of people are unaware they have errors on their credit report. Join our partner GreenPath on October 16 at 11 a.m. and they'll point you in the direction to find out if you are one of them and equip you to take action to correct inaccuracies.
Maybe you know what is on your credit report but are unsure how it all comes together to calculate a credit score. They'll discuss the factors impacting a credit score, how to build or improve your score and debunk common credit myths.
Register now to attend or to receive a recording of the webinar if you're unable to make it.
OCTOBER IS ESTATE PLANNING AWARENESS MONTH
Estate planning is a way to prepare yourself (and perhaps more importantly, your loved ones) for the unexpected and is an essential part of your financial planning.
Dying without an estate plan can put a burden on your loved ones and can greatly affect your family, your taxes and the money you plan to leave the next generation.
And remember, estate planning is not just for the wealthy but for anyone over the age of 18.
If you're interested in preparing for the unexpected, contact a CFS Advisor for a complimentary, no-obligation appointment.4
